Emmerson Transport Limited (ETL) is Hawke's Bay family owed transport operation, owned and operated by the Emmerson family, under the directorship of Ian Emmerson and a focussed management team.
The company had small beginnings in 1977 when it was founded by the late John Emmerson and his sons, Ian and Peter. Initial activities involved transporting produce from the family's agricultural and horticultural activities which were delivered to processors, markets and export ports using the three trucks they had bought. A few years later they increased the fleet when they began carting livestock.
Deregulation of the transport industry in the 1980s changed the focus for ETL as well as the opportunities to diversify into freight cartage. It was in 1995 when Ian and Peter decided to exit livestock cartage.
Growth was steady throughout the late 80s and 90s. With the acquisition of two other companies during the 2000s, and further expansion, ETL has become the largest transport operation in Hawke's Bay. ETL acquired Lindco Holdings in 2002 and Bruce Hill Transport in 2006.
Over 40 years later the company still continues to grow and diversify with changing times. Ian Emmerson, Director, is still actively involved within the company as is his brother Peter Emmerson who continues his passion of driving for ETL. Ian's two children are also involved with the business, Karly, Ian's daughter who is a Key account manager with ETL.
John Emmerson
Founder
John remained an active member on the Board of Directors when he officially retired until his passing in February 2018.
While he was not actively involved in day to day operations, he still took a keen interest in all business activities.
John will be dearly missed by the Emmerson family, friends and team.
